Panic attacks in Dubai: why they happen and what can help

Samuel Thomas·LAR Certified Coach·7 min read

Panic attacks are one of the most frightening experiences a person can have — and one of the most common reasons people seek help across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the wider UAE.

A panic attack is the body's emergency response system firing at full intensity for no immediate reason. Heart rate surges. Breathing becomes difficult. The mind screams danger. And yet there is no threat — just the feeling of one.

In Dubai, panic attacks are more common than people realise. The city's intensity — the traffic, the pace, the social pressure, the distance from home — creates the conditions in which a sensitised nervous system can tip into full panic without warning.

Breathing techniques and grounding can help in the moment. Many people also want to understand why panic keeps returning. Physical causes of symptoms such as chest pain or palpitations should always be checked by a doctor first.

Coaching based on the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology's TRT principles focuses on that wider pattern: how the threat response has been learned, and how everyday reactions to sensations may keep it active. Some people find panic becomes less frequent or less frightening over time; outcomes vary and are not guaranteed.

If you are experiencing panic attacks in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else in the UAE, support is available. Our coaches offer online sessions that can complement, but not replace, care from your doctor. If you are ever in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
