Pure-O: coaching enquiries from across the UAE

Pure-O is a commonly used term for OCD where compulsions are mainly mental. It is a form of OCD and should be assessed clinically. Coaching can offer anxiety education alongside that care.

Understanding the concern

People describe distressing intrusive thoughts about harm, morality, relationships or identity, followed by mental reviewing, analysing or seeking certainty.

Many feel ashamed of their thoughts. Coaching sessions are non-judgmental and do not require you to disclose specific content.

What an enquiry might involve

  • 01A general outline of the theme, at whatever level of detail feels comfortable.
  • 02Whether you have been assessed for OCD and are receiving treatment.
  • 03A conversation about whether coaching is a sensible complement now.

Practical session expectations

  • 01Sessions explain how mental checking and reassurance can keep anxiety high.
  • 02Steps are agreed collaboratively and reviewed each time.
  • 03Your coach will encourage specialist clinical input if symptoms are severe.

Worth discussing with your doctor or practitioner

  • 01Assessment for OCD and treatment options your clinician recommends.
  • 02How much time mental rituals take each day.
  • 03Mood and any thoughts of self-harm, which should be shared with a clinician promptly.

Suitability and boundaries

Coaching does not diagnose or treat OCD. It may suit people who want additional anxiety education while under appropriate clinical care.

Coaching is educational support. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace care from a doctor, psychiatrist or licensed psychologist, and no particular outcome or timeline is guaranteed. Condition names on this site describe what people tell us they are experiencing, not services that diagnose or treat those conditions.

About the approach

LAR coaches draw on Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT) and the related HSF framework, which were developed by and belong to the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology. Descriptions of TRT and any programme figures are the Institute's own. You can read the Institute's material directly:
