PTSD & Trauma: coaching enquiries from across the UAE
PTSD is a clinical condition that should be assessed and treated by qualified professionals. Coaching does not process trauma and is not trauma therapy. Some people use coaching to understand everyday anxiety responses alongside clinical care.
PTSD needs clinical care
Please seek assessment from a licensed psychiatrist, psychologist or doctor. Trauma-related conditions can involve risks that coaching is not equipped to manage.
If you are in immediate danger or at risk of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or go to the nearest hospital emergency department. Coaching is not a crisis or emergency service.
Understanding the concern
People affected by trauma may describe hypervigilance, startle responses, sleep disturbance, avoidance of reminders or intrusive memories.
Coaching sessions do not ask you to revisit or describe traumatic events. Where appropriate, they focus on general education about the threat response and present-day routines.
What an enquiry might involve
- 01A brief note on what you are looking for. You do not need to describe any traumatic experience.
- 02Confirmation of whether you are under the care of a psychiatrist, psychologist or doctor.
- 03An honest conversation about whether coaching is suitable now, or whether clinical support should come first.
Practical session expectations
- 01Sessions stay present-focused and educational. You choose what you share.
- 02If distress escalates during contact, your coach will pause and signpost appropriate clinical or emergency help.
- 03Coaching is offered only as a complement to, never instead of, trauma-focused clinical treatment.
Worth discussing with your doctor or practitioner
- 01Formal assessment for PTSD and recognised trauma-focused treatments.
- 02Sleep, substance use, mood and any thoughts of self-harm.
- 03Whether adding coaching is appropriate given your current treatment plan.
Suitability and boundaries
Coaching is not suitable as a primary response to PTSD. It may be considered only alongside appropriate clinical care and where your treating professional agrees it would not interfere.
Coaching is educational support. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace care from a doctor, psychiatrist or licensed psychologist, and no particular outcome or timeline is guaranteed. Condition names on this site describe what people tell us they are experiencing, not services that diagnose or treat those conditions.
About the approach
LAR coaches draw on Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT) and the related HSF framework, which were developed by and belong to the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology. Descriptions of TRT and any programme figures are the Institute's own. You can read the Institute's material directly:
