OCD: coaching enquiries from across the UAE

OCD is a distinct clinical condition with its own recognised treatments. Some people choose coaching to better understand the anxiety that accompanies obsessions and compulsions, ideally alongside clinical care.

Understanding the concern

People often describe unwanted thoughts or images, followed by checking, cleaning, counting, seeking reassurance or mentally reviewing until it feels right.

Coaching here focuses on the anxiety element: how the threat response attaches to doubt, and how reassurance-seeking can keep it going. It is not a replacement for OCD-specific therapy.

What an enquiry might involve

  • 01A general description of the themes and rituals you experience. You do not need to share details you are not ready to share.
  • 02Whether you have been assessed by a psychiatrist or psychologist and whether you are receiving treatment.
  • 03A discussion of whether coaching is an appropriate complement, or whether clinical support should come first.

Practical session expectations

  • 01Your coach will explain the anxiety cycle in plain language and how it can relate to compulsive responses.
  • 02Between-session steps are agreed collaboratively and kept realistic.
  • 03If symptoms appear severe or worsening, your coach may recommend you prioritise specialist clinical care.

Worth discussing with your doctor or practitioner

  • 01Assessment and evidence-based treatment options for OCD, such as therapy approaches your practitioner recommends.
  • 02Medication options and how coaching might fit alongside them.
  • 03How rituals affect work, relationships and daily functioning.

Suitability and boundaries

Coaching does not diagnose or treat OCD. It may suit people who want additional anxiety education, usually while under the care of a licensed clinician.

Coaching is educational support. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace care from a doctor, psychiatrist or licensed psychologist, and no particular outcome or timeline is guaranteed. Condition names on this site describe what people tell us they are experiencing, not services that diagnose or treat those conditions.

About the approach

LAR coaches draw on Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT) and the related HSF framework, which were developed by and belong to the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology. Descriptions of TRT and any programme figures are the Institute's own. You can read the Institute's material directly:

Next steps

Enquire with a brief overview and let us know whether you have a treating clinician. A coach will respond honestly about fit.
