Agoraphobia in the UAE: recovering from housebound anxiety

Dino Goold·LAR Certified Coach·6 min read

Agoraphobia — the fear of situations where escape feels difficult — is one of the most isolating anxiety conditions. Remote coaching means support can start from home.

Agoraphobia is not simply a fear of open spaces. It is a pervasive anxiety about any situation where the sufferer feels trapped, exposed, or far from safety. Shopping malls, motorways, restaurants, the workplace — all can become impossible for someone with agoraphobia.

In the UAE, this is particularly cruel. Dubai Mall is one of the largest in the world. The motorways are fast and busy. Public spaces are enormous. For someone with agoraphobia, this environment can feel genuinely overwhelming.

Clinicians commonly offer approaches such as CBT with graded exposure, sometimes alongside medication. These are established options worth discussing with a doctor.

The Linden Method does not require you to go anywhere. Sessions are delivered via Zoom, Phone, or FaceTime — directly to your home, wherever you are in the UAE. Coaching draws on the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology's TRT principles, with practical steps agreed at your own pace. It complements, rather than replaces, clinical care.

Progress and timelines vary from person to person. If you are living with agoraphobia in the UAE, you do not need to leave your home to begin a conversation about support.
