How The Linden Method works — and why it is different from therapy
The Linden Method is not therapy. It is not counselling. It is not CBT. Understanding what it is — and what it isn't — is the first step toward choosing the right path.
Therapy and counselling are designed to help you understand yourself — your past, your patterns, your relationships. That understanding can be profoundly valuable, and therapy, CBT and medication are established, effective options for many people.
Coaching takes a different, educational angle. It focuses on the threat response: how it can fire when there is no genuine danger, and how daily habits may keep it active. Distinct clinical conditions such as OCD, PTSD and eating disorders need their own clinical assessment and care.
The Linden Method is an educational programme. LAR coaching draws on Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT) and the HSF framework, developed by the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology, which provide structured, practical steps. Coaching is not diagnosis, therapy or a replacement for clinical or emergency care.
Charles Linden developed the method based on his own experience of anxiety. For descriptions of TRT and any programme figures, see the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology's own published material.
Our coaches are not therapists. They are practitioners — people who have been through the Linden Method themselves and are trained to guide others through it. They aim to offer understanding and structure. Outcomes vary, and coaches will encourage you to seek clinical care where it is needed.
