Intrusive Thoughts: coaching enquiries from across the UAE
Unwanted thoughts that feel shocking or out of character are a very common human experience, yet they can become distressing when anxiety attaches to them. Coaching offers a calm, non-judgmental space to understand that.
Understanding the concern
People describe thoughts that clash with their values, followed by fear about what the thought means and attempts to push it away.
Coaching explains how suppression and checking can make thoughts more frequent. Where thoughts are part of OCD or another condition, clinical assessment is recommended.
What an enquiry might involve
- 01A general description; specific content is not required.
- 02Whether you have discussed the thoughts with a doctor or psychologist.
- 03A choice of coach and session time.
Practical session expectations
- 01Sessions focus on the anxiety response to thoughts rather than the content.
- 02Practical between-session steps are agreed together.
- 03Your coach may recommend clinical assessment if an underlying condition seems likely.
Worth discussing with your doctor or practitioner
- 01Whether the thoughts fit a pattern such as OCD, depression or trauma that needs clinical assessment.
- 02Any thoughts of harming yourself, which should be shared with a clinician promptly.
- 03How much distress and time the thoughts take up each day.
Suitability and boundaries
Coaching does not diagnose. It may suit adults seeking education about anxious responses to thoughts, ideally with clinical input where indicated.
Coaching is educational support. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace care from a doctor, psychiatrist or licensed psychologist, and no particular outcome or timeline is guaranteed. Condition names on this site describe what people tell us they are experiencing, not services that diagnose or treat those conditions.
About the approach
LAR coaches draw on Threat Recalibration Therapy (TRT) and the related HSF framework, which were developed by and belong to the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology. Descriptions of TRT and any programme figures are the Institute's own. You can read the Institute's material directly:
Next steps
Send a brief enquiry. You will not be asked to describe the thoughts themselves.
